Creating beautiful, functional, liveable and magical outdoor spaces, unique to each client’s wants and needs. Resident Garden Designer, and qualified Horticulturist, Paul Glover combines his talents and experience to guide clients through the design process to ensure every detail reflects them and ultimately results in a garden they love. Paul is a self-confessed plant geek with an amazingly extensive knowledge of plants and their particulars. He also has a passion for learning about different historical and cultural philosophies of garden design. All of this helps Paul and the team to transform client’s wants, needs and ideas into a living, breathing garden they can enjoy and cherish for years to come.
Q: Why did you become a Garden Designer?
A: For a long time, I have been someone who makes things. Before training in horticulture, I designed and made furniture and I have always loved to create things that have an aesthetic tactility. Having always loved the outdoors, transitioning into first studying horticulture and then garden design seemed like the obvious choice which allowed me to mix so many of my passions. My initial studies also inspired a passion for learning about plants that I get to indulge everyday through my work.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your work?
A: What I love the most about my work is building relationships. I get a real satisfaction from getting to know my clients, who they are as people, what they like and dislike, their passions and interests, and build a rapport that spans beyond the mere length of a project. I get a real kick out of reflecting at the end of a project and looking back to the initial meetings I had with a client to see how far the relationship has come and how I was able to internalise what I learn about who they are and what is important to them, to embed this into the design and/or care work we did for them.
It is important to me that what we deliver for clients not only ticks off the big things, but also tends to the small details that are important to them, as I believe it is the small details that really make the difference between an outdoor space that ticks the boxes, and a space that truly reflects them.
Q: Why do you call yourself a Garden Designer? What is the difference between garden and landscape design?
Landscape design and garden design are simply two different approaches to the same thing. Landscape design tends to focus first on the landscapes, I call myself a Garden Designer because my landscape designs revolve around plants. The reason for that is, that when I first started doing what I do I fell in love with gardens and horticulture and plant variety as somewhat of a palette that allows me to create a landscape. Garden design has an intimate feel and invokes closeness and intimacy. I love using the local and indigenous plants to an area as well as using exotics.
"His knowledge of plants is borderline nerdy. Paul loves plants and he knows what he’s talking about."
"I was utterly delighted to find he had incorporated a secret, 'magical' space for me! How did he know me so well?"
"They do regular work at our house and we are always very happy with their work and we fully recommend them!”
"Paul has planted over 2000 natives on our property and has helped take it to a level I did not think was possible."
